Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and AskNaro ("AskNaro", "we", "us") about your use of the AskNaro website at asknaro.com, the AskNaro app for iPhone, and the related services (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of a school, college, or university, that institution's agreement with us also applies and takes precedence where it differs.
1. What the Service is
AskNaro is a study assistant that an instructor configures for a specific course from the instructor's own teaching materials. Students ask questions and receive answers grounded in those materials, review material, tutoring exercises, and practice questions that the instructor has approved. The Service uses artificial intelligence to compose answers. It is a study aid, not a replacement for the course, the instructor, or the assigned readings.
2. Who may use the Service
You must be at least thirteen years old to use the Service, and if you are under eighteen your school or a parent or guardian must have authorized your use. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
3. Accounts
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password private. Tell us right away at support@asknaro.com if you believe your account has been used without your permission. Each account is for one person. You may delete your account at any time from the app under Settings or by contacting us, and deletion is immediate and permanent.
4. Roles
Students join courses with a course code from their instructor, ask questions, and use the study features. Instructors create courses, upload their teaching materials, review and approve practice content, and manage their course roster. Institutional administrators may manage instructors and courses for their institution. Each role sees only what it needs.
5. Acceptable use
Use the Service honestly and only for learning and teaching. You agree not to use the Service in a way that violates your institution's academic integrity or honor code, including on assessments where your instructor has not permitted its use; upload materials you do not have the right to share, or that infringe someone else's copyright or other rights; try to access other people's accounts, courses, or data, or to probe, disrupt, or overload the Service; attempt to extract the underlying models, prompts, or software, or to reverse engineer the Service; use automated tools to harvest content or send requests at volume without our written permission; post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or that contains malware; or misrepresent who you are or your affiliation with an institution. We may suspend or end access for conduct that violates these terms or puts other users or the Service at risk, and we will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
6. Instructor materials
Instructors keep all rights in the teaching materials they upload. By uploading materials, an instructor gives AskNaro a limited license to store, index, and process those materials, and to display excerpts from them to students enrolled in that course, solely to provide the Service. The license ends when the materials or the course are deleted, apart from backup copies that expire under the Privacy Policy. Instructors are responsible for having the rights needed to upload their materials.
7. Student content
Students keep the rights to the questions they ask and the work they produce. Students give AskNaro a limited license to process their questions to generate answers and to store conversation history where that feature is enabled. Where the Service is used in a course at an institution, student records created in the Service are education records of that institution and are handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Artificial intelligence and accuracy
Answers are generated by a language model and can be incomplete, outdated, or wrong. The Service marks answers that go beyond the instructor's course materials. Always check important information against your course materials and your instructor. Do not rely on the Service for medical, legal, financial, safety, or emergency decisions. Instructors decide which study features are available in their course and review practice content before students see it, but they do not review every individual answer in real time.
9. Our intellectual property
The Service, including its software, design, logo, and name, is owned by AskNaro and its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. These terms do not give you any right to use the AskNaro name or logo. You may use the Service only as permitted here.
10. Feedback
If you send us suggestions or feedback, you agree that we may use them to improve the Service without any obligation to you.
11. Fees
The Service is currently offered without charge to participating courses. If we introduce paid plans, we will publish the prices and terms in advance, and nothing you already use will become paid without notice.
12. Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service available and reliable, but we do not promise uninterrupted access. We may change, add, or remove features, and we will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce the Service for a course in progress. We may also need to interrupt the Service for maintenance or security reasons.
13. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use and protect it, including our commitments for student education records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). It is part of these terms.
14. Termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if required by law, or if the institution that authorized your access asks us to. When an account is deleted, the data is removed as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections 6 through 10 and 15 through 19 survive termination.
15. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by law, AskNaro disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, and does not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or uninterrupted, or that the answers it produces are accurate or complete.
16. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AskNaro will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from or related to the Service. AskNaro's total liability for any claim related to the Service will not exceed the greater of one hundred US dollars or the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
17. Indemnity
If you are an instructor or an institution, you agree to defend and hold AskNaro harmless from claims arising out of materials you upload or your violation of these terms, to the extent permitted by law and by your institution's policies.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Harris County, Texas, and you consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here limits the rights of a public institution under the laws that apply to it.
19. General
These terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and AskNaro about the Service. If any part is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer these terms without our consent. We may update these terms, and we will post the new version with a new effective date and notify instructors and institutions of material changes before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the new terms.
